Boston Hotel News: Dual-Branded Hotel to Open Near BCEC

A brand new, 411-room hotel received board approval by the Boston Planning and Development Agency on November 17. With continued strong demand for hotel rooms around the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC), this approval is welcome news for future events at the BCEC.

With construction scheduled to begin in early 2017, the completed 15-story building has an anticipated opening date of early- to mid-2019. The hotel will be located at 660 Summer Street, three blocks away from the BCEC at 415 Summer Street. The parcel is currently a vacant industrial site in the Marine Industrial Park at the entrance to the Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park, which is home to Boston’s cruise ship terminal, plus beer brewers, research facilities, and seafood processing and wholesaling facilities.

The hotel will be dual-branded and include a 245-key self-service Hampton Inn and a 166-key extended-stay Homewood Suites, which provides stay options for all types of travelers. Priced at $156 million, the LEED-certifiable building will offer retail space and a 500-seat restaurant (which dining establishment will occupy this space has yet to be announced) for the public, plus an outdoor terrace, fitness center, and indoor pool for hotel guests. The building will also house 16,000 sq. ft. of meeting space and a 75-space parking garage, with both hotels sharing check-in areas on the first floor and a lounge on the third floor.
