The Future of Technology is at a Boston Convention Center

The state of technology is constantly evolving. Not too long ago, IT was a space that was internally focused with companies looking for ways to improve efficiencies. Now, however, businesses have had to shift to focusing on the customer experience. This is due to the new level of consumer expectations that have been set by corporate giants such as Amazon, Apple, and Uber.

Our Boston convention centers have stayed ahead of the curve with a customer-focused, forward-thinking approach to technology. In the February 2016 issue of Computerworld, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) was one of three companies featured for their customer-responsive re-engineering efforts in its cover story “Digital Transformation”.

As stated in the article, “companies focused on re-engineering around customers share several common characteristics.” These characteristics include:

  • Knowing that not all customers are alike
  • Continually changing and improving based on existing knowledge and customer feedback
  • Having IT staffer with specific knowledge about the business and industry they work in, who are often physically co-located with their business counterparts

The MCCA offers a broad range of technology capabilities for our customers, allowing them to select a menu of services to meet their individual needs. Both the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) and Hynes Convention Center offer free Wi-Fi access throughout and a 10-Gigabit, fully-redundant fiber network that allows more devices to connect with our network, with greater bandwidth and greater network security. Both facilities also offer geolocation services, IPTV, video transport services and advanced digital displays to enhance customer engagement with event attendees. The MCCA’s robust technology capabilities are supported by an in-house team of award-winning, network-certified IT professional available on-site, 24/7.

The MCCA has made an ongoing commitment to keep our venues at the forefront of industry technology, not just to respond to the needs of clients today, but to respond to the needs of customers who will utilize our facilities 15+ years from now.

Steven Snyder, CIO of the MCCA, states in the article: “We’re not selling the technology that’s in place today, but a mindset that we’ll continue to invest in technology.”

The BCEC was named “Best High Tech Facility” by PCMA, while the MCCA was recently named a 2016 InformationWeek Elite 100 finalist. To learn more about Boston’s technology services visit SignatureBoston.com.
